Cavity preparation and placement of fillings is one of the most widespread medical interventions. The reason is the high prevalence of dental caries. Manual or mechanical dental instruments are used to remove cariously decayed tooth substance down to healthy tooth substance according to criteria that are based on scientific foundations. After that, an adequate filling is placed in the prepared cavity.

Tooth decay

Caries is a disease of hard dental tissues primarily caused by bacteria. At first it affects only the enamel which changes color, if it is not treated it progresses further to the dentin when pain occurs. It is treated simply by removing dentin changed by caries and placing a FILLING.

UNTREATED CARIES LEADS TO INFLAMMATION OF THE PULP, WHICH IS A MUCH MORE SERIOUS AND SEVERE DISEASE! THIS IS WHY A VISIT TO THE DENTIST IS IMPORTANT IN THE EARLY PERIOD OF CARIES PROGRESS!

Caries complications - what is a "dead tooth"

If the caries is not treated in time, the bacteria that caused it continue to progress to the PULP, popularly known as the "dental nerve" and cause inflammation. Inflammation of the pulp is a much more serious disease, accompanied by severe pain that does not stop and can torment the patient quite a bit. It is treated by removing the pulp of the tooth, better known as "extracted nerves", after removing the caries. This THERAPY IS MUCH LESS SUCCESSFUL than enamel and dentin caries therapy. The reason for this is that the so-called "dead tooth" cannot be fed at all, so it becomes "brittle" and BREAKS EASILY.

THE POSSIBILITY OF LOADING such a tooth with a crown or a bridge is only possible after their additional STRENGTHENING WITH UPGRADE.

Such teeth often GET DARK, which is quite aesthetically bad.

UNTREATED PULP INFLAMMATION LEADS TO THE PROCESS DOWN TO THE SURROUNDING CONNECTIVE TISSUE AND BONE, WHICH IS AN EVEN MORE SERIOUS DISEASE WITH A WORSE PROGNOSIS FOR THE TOOTH!!!

This disease can be accompanied by severe pain and ISLANDS, or it can pass with very mild symptoms but with great destruction in the bone. Treatment APICOTOMY OR TEETH EXTRACTION!

Why should old fillings be changed?

Due to the effect of the forces present in the mouth and due to the properties of the materials from which the fillings are made, the fillings "do not close at the edge" over time, i.e. the connection between the tooth and the filling weakens and the filling no longer fits the tooth completely. In those places, a crack is created into which food and bacteria enter, leading to new caries and all its complications. This is the reason why old fillings should be changed.

Are amalgam fillings harmful?

Amalgam fillings or better known as "black fillings" are made from an alloy of silver, tin and some other metals mixed with mercury. Because of this part of mercury found in the amalgam alloy, there is a fear among a certain number of patients that AMALGAM FILLINGS are HARMFUL. There are numerous studies that claim the opposite. During the amalgam production process and during the preparation for its installation, adequate measures are taken to reduce the amount of free mercury to a minimum, the chance of it reaching the teeth is minimal. In addition to this, it is mandatory to install CEMENT BASES under amalgam fillings, which prevent the possible penetration of free mercury into the pulp, if it were to happen that mercury reaches the blood through the pulp, its quantity, which is used in dentistry, is so minimal that the body's immune system is very easily deal with it WITHOUT CONSEQUENCES FOR GENERAL HEALTH..

CONSIDERING THE LISTED THREE LEVELS OF PROTECTION, IT CAN BE CONCLUDED THAT AMALGAM FILLINGS ARE COMPLETELY HARMLESS FOR THE ORGANISM!!!
