Instructions on maintenance of total dentures
Dentures, regardless of whether they are partial or total, represent a foreign body, and a big change for the patient that requires the patient to adapt to them. During the adaptation period, the PATIENT MAY EXPERIENCE CERTAIN COMPLAINTS: nausea, increased salivation, slurred speech, changes in the sense of taste and speech... All these complaints are NORMAL AND TRANSIENT, and in order to eliminate them as soon as possible, it is necessary to follow the following INSTRUCTIONS:
1. The patient must have PATIENCE in order to learn to use the new prostheses as soon as possible.
2. To NOT WEAR OLD DENTURES if he has any, because he is already adapted to them, so it seems to every patient that the old dentures are better than the new ones, which of course is not true.
3. Before placing the prosthesis in the mouth, MOISTEN THE PROSTHESIS WITH LUKE WATER in order to reduce the sensation of a foreign body.
4. During the first few days, you should WEAR THE BRACKET CONSTANTLY BOTH DAY AND NIGHT in order to adapt as soon as possible
once the adaptation period has passed, the prosthesis should not be worn at night.
5. In the beginning, you should SPEAK AND READ OUT LOUD AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE to ensure speech adaptation.
6. When eating, the patient should take smaller morsels and divide them between open jaws.
7. It is necessary for the patient to MAINTAIN HYGIENE OF THE MOUTH AND TEETH (if they have their own teeth) in the usual way, with a BRUSH AND PASTE at least twice a day in the morning and in the evening.
8. It is also necessary for the patient to MAINTAIN THE HYGIENE OF THE PROSTHESIS. The prosthesis should be cleaned AFTER EVERY MEAL (RINSE WITH A JET OF WATER), AND ONCE A DAY, preferably in the evening, the prosthesis should be thoroughly cleaned with a brush and the paste should be rubbed well on all sides and then rinsed under a stream of water.
9. IT IS NOT ALLOWED TO CLEAN THE DENTURE WITH HOT WATER, ALCOHOL, DETERGENTS AND OTHER AGENTS USED IN HOUSEHOLDS.
10. In principle, dentures SHOULD NOT BE WEARED AT NIGHT, they SHOULD BE LEFT IN A CONTAINER WITH WATER after they have been washed and cleaned. Occasional wearing of prostheses at night is allowed, if the patient does not have any problems.
11. DENTURES ARE BREAKABLE WHEN HANDLED INCORRECTLY OR DROPPED ON SOLID SURFACES
12. In the event of pain, blistering dentures, loose dentures or some other problems, you should CONSULT A DENTIST.
